New release Brokken Records 003: The Midge by Andy Bruce & The Rigidly Righteous.
The Rigidly Righteous are a sextet marrying contemporary forms of jazz and improvisation with music firmly grounded in the Scottish tradition.
Whilst drawing inspiration from the works of early Scottish composers (chiefly Robert Carver, James Oswald and Robert Burns), the Rigidly Righteous make a unique and colourful sound, due in no small part to their unusual line-up:
Andy Bruce - trombone, vocals
Hermine Deurloo - soprano sax, harmonica
Frans Cornelissen - tuba
Sander Hop - guitar
Martin Fondse - keyboards, flute, melodica
Alan Purves - drums, percussion
The result is an unorthodox new band on the music scene, with a pedigree stretching from the Willem Breuker Kollektief and Massada, through to the Groove Troopers and Raise the Roof.
